Well, I've tried out a little bit of the Star Trek Online beta today. So far I think its alright. Its a tad bit laggy to tell at the moment though. I'm thinking the servers weren't ready for an open beta. It started me off on a ship in something like "Ten Forward" on the Enterprise, got called to the bridge to recieve a distress signal. There were Borg attacking a ship and I had to beam over to help out the Federation ship. I had to blow up some Borg devices they installed on the ship, use my tricorder to get some readings on the sickly, activated a transporter to beam a few Borg into a section of the ship that had a hull breach to have them sucked out into space (lawl). Then I had to fight my way down to engineering and kill a bunch of Borg in there. After that, I got my own ship; had to fly it around and beam crew members off of 4 ships that were about to be destroyed and beam them to another ship that was about to warp out of there.
After that, it was Space Combat time. This part will definitely take some getting used to. I had to finish off some banged up Borg sphere probes, then had to kill some functioning ones that actually fired back. I accidentally aggroed 2 and had to focus on one while I was spinning my ship to stay alive. Reason being, your shields are divided into: front, rear, left, and right shields. All of these can weaken at different times, so if one shield goes down, in order to stay alive, you have to turn your ship around. I ended up having another Federation ship come up and help me. After the space combat section was over, I was supposed to beam down to the planet I was near. I think the server crashed because while it was on the load screen, it pretty much froze. I left it running for about 10 minutes and it never loaded, and I have yet to try it out again.
So far so good, but need more playing.
